Annual street Sleep

Mid West Simon & Limerick City Macra Na Féirme

Wednesday, December 18, 2013

Mid West Simon Staff and volunteers from Limerick City Macra Na Féirme are planning on sleeping out on the streets of Limerick city on the night of Saturday 21st December in the 3rd Annual Mid West Simon Street Sleep.  Starting at 9.30 am our brave staff joined by volunteers of Macra na Féirme in the Limerick will prepare a sleeping area on O’Connell Street and throughout the day they, their friends and colleagues will make a collection in Limerick City.  When all the Christmas shoppers make their way home on that evening and the Festivities begin in the clubs and pubs the street sleepers will stay on the street all night come hail, rain or snow.  The aim is to raise awareness of the harsh reality of homelessness, which for some of the most vulnerable individuals in our region is an everyday reality.

Organised by Emily Sexton of Limerick City Macra and Fianait Mitchell Fundraising Coordinator at Mid West Simon the event is already gathering much needed funds via a text donation service.  If you would like to support them please text KEYS to 50300 to donate €4 in support of our street sleep team.  We have set a fundraising target of €3,000.   Despite the recession this Christmas most of us can count amongst our blessings family, friends and a roof over our heads. At Mid West Simon Community we see every day how hardship is pushing more and more people into homelessness and isolation.  We are counting on the generosity of the people of the Midwest region and we are appealing to everybody shopping on Saturday 21st or those socialising and enjoying the Christmas Spirit on Saturday night to give a little.

Participants will spend the night in sleeping bags outside the AIB bank on O’Connell Street, with cardboard for mattresses, to raise funds and awareness for the Mid West Simon Community.

If you want to make a donation you can donate to our bucket collectors on the day, donate online, make a donation of €4 by texting KEYS to 50300 or call 061 608980 to donate over the phone.
