FULL-TIME VOLUNTEER PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to social justice and equal opportunities.
  • Commitment to working alongside people who are homeless in a respectful way.
  • Commitment to a minimum placement of 9 months (preferably 12 months).
  • An ability to reflect on work practice and a desire to learn good working practices.
  • High Level of spoken and written English.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Commitment to working in a non-judgemental way.
  • Commitment to the Simon Communities of Ireland ethos.

Desirable

  • A knowledge of homelessness.
  • A knowledge of addiction and mental health issues.
  • Good housekeeping skills including cooking and cleaning.
  • Experience of administering personal care.
  • Record keeping/ IT skills.
  • The Simon Communities of Ireland are committed to empowering and working with homeless people by campaigning and providing the highest possible standards of care. Volunteers provide a core element of this service as they enhance and support paid staff in the work they do towards this goal.

All volunteers are expected to work to the ethos values and policies of the community and approach their work in a mature and professional manner. Full Time Volunteers live in shared accommodation and are expected to respect their fellow volunteers and the accommodation.

 

FULL-TIME VOLUNTEER TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Volunteers work no more than 39 hours per week (no more than 156 hours in a 4 week period) + sleepovers as per local project requirement.
  • Volunteers work shift's this includes early shifts, late shifts, waking nights and sleepovers.
  • 34 days leave, with allowance, per annum (including Public Holidays. Where Public Holidays are worked, time off in lieu is given). All leave is to be taken by agreement with line manager.
  • Each volunteer will be issued with a formal placement agreement.
  • A weekly pocket money allowance will be paid.
  • All out of pocket expenses incurred whilst working will be reimbursed
  • Accommodation will be provided.
  • Training will be provided at both a National and Community level.
  • A comprehensive induction will be provided on arrival in the community.
  • One to one supervision will be provided on a regular basis.
  • Volunteers cannot undertake part-time work or study or claim social welfare.
